Overhaul

So today I decided to make some changes to a few of the shop sets. Nothing major, just a few little things here and there. I won't be posting them just yet but they will be out before the big New Year's sale. Speaking of sale, all of the holiday shop sets are now 75% off. I will not be re-listing them once they are sold so make sure you get yours before they are all gone!

New shop hours are going into effect January 1, 2011. Remember, all orders will be sent out after 7 p.m. cst.

I am also working on getting a premium and basic sample of all of the shop sets. I am hoping to get this done by the end of the week but it is going to be a bit time consuming. Maybe that can be my new year's resolution...
Also, remember that any shop set can be made into a basic, premium or business starter kit. Just send me a convo and I can set up a reserved listing for you. It's that easy!

I hope everyone had a great holiday, I know I did:)

Don't forget about the big New Year's Sale, it's gonna be a doozy!

Welcome 2011!

2011 is going to bring a lot of changes at SRDS and I am VERY excited about all of them! I had an amazing year over at SRDS and I hope to do the same in 2011.

My shop is currently on vacation so I can spend some quality time with my family. My husband is in the military and this will be the  very first Christmas my youngest gets to spend with her daddy. I am so thankful that we can all celebrate together for the first time:) Yay!

The first new thing I want to talk about is my new hours of operation. I will be posting these new hours on my website, Etsy, Twitter and Facebook. I will be filling orders at night after my kids are in bed. I am doing this because my oldest daughter will be starting school and there just aren't enough hours in the day to do everything. Besides, I don't have to worry about little hands getting into all of my office supplies! I have been doing it this way for a while but I am going to actually implement it by posting my business hours. I will still be available during the day to answer convo's and such but all orders will be filled after 8 p.m. cst.

This next one is a biggie and will be very time consuming but I hope I can get it done before February. As most of you know I have made to match listings for business cards, labels, etc. My goal is to post all of these designs on my website so prospective buyers can click the link to my site and see what their product will look like. These are still made to match meaning they have to match a design in my shop. There is a bit of a time crunch so I will probably start out with the biz cards and go from there.

There will be about a 2 week shop closure in February. My husband and I are in the process of purchasing our very first home(yippee!!). We will be moving the second half of February and  I will be taking some time away from the shop to concentrate on getting settled into our new home.

Another fun idea I had for 2011 is naming all of my shop sets. It's not a neccesity but I think it would be fun. What do you think?

So, all in all I have a lot of ideas for 2011. Since I have my shop closed until after Christmas I will be working on some new designs. I can't wait to get them in my shop for you all to see. Here is a preview of one I made yesterday:

This is the banner. I haven't made it into the shop set yet but this will work!

I want to wish all of your a very happy holiday and really cherish the time that you have with your loved ones. Some of us aren't as lucky. Just remember to keep those families celebrating without a loved one in your thoughts. Happy Holidays from Sara Rubendall Design Studio!

New Year's Sale!

The new year is a great time to re-vamp your shop with a fun new look! I have added a lot of new sets and there are many more to come. I have everything you need to get your shop up and running. I also have items for offline marketing as well. Business cards, labels, bow cards, hang tags and much much more.

Why am I telling you all of this you ask? On new year's day everything in my shop will be 50% off! I know this event is a bit far off but I want to start spreading the word now so everyone can get a chance to get in on the huge savings.

As promised, in my last post I wrote that this weeks tip has to do with Etsy Hacks. Here is what the site describes itself as:

Greasemonkey is an add-on for the Firefox web browser, that allows you to run "scripts", or little programs that alter the web pages you view. See Installing Greasemonkey for more information.

So if you go to etsyhacks.com you can get in on all of these cool hacks:

  • copy listing - create a new listing based on an existing one.
  • item zoom - adds a zoom icon to images in search and shop listings.
  • edit this item - edit or delete a listing from the View Listing page.
  • buyer info - add extra information to the "buyer" box on a receipt page.
  • forum wrangler - add extra features to the Etsy forum pages.
These are the most popular. My favorite is the copy listing hack. This enables you to copy a listing without typing everything over and over again.

The website suggests you use firefox(as do I) to run these hacks.

You have to install the application on your computer to make these work. They are fabulous and have saved me many many hours of writing listings!

Next week I will be writing about a very super awesome website called mommadethat.com. I use this website to advertise and I would suggest that you do too. The owner of the site is fabulous and I hope you all go check her site out:)

Until next time,
Sara

I also wanted to post some of the newest shop sets available on SRDS. Enjoy!

250 sales!

To celebrate SRDS hitting 250 sales I am going to have a giveaway! I will be giving away a holiday shop set of your choice. Just leave a comment on this blog post and you are in the running for a free set!!

Mondays are now Mad Blogger Mondays! I have decided to write my blog posts on Mondays. I need to start a routine because if I don't my blog posts won't get written. This Monday's post is more of an informative post but I promise next week will be a doosy! I will be writing about the amazing potential of Etsy Hacks. I know it sounds like bad news, but I promise it is really great.

That is all for now. Happy 250 sales to me and good luck on winning the free Holiday shop set!!

Black Friday and More!

So I know you have all probably been waiting for a huge Black Friday announcement...well here it is!

Holiday Shop Sets: 50% off!!
Premium Shop Sets: $10.00 off!
Basic Shop Sets: 50% off!!
Made to Match Items: 3 for $25.00 or 50% off each Made to Match Item!

I have decided to add in listings for made to match items. This way if a customer wants to add a bow card and a business card design to their order, they can simply add the listing to their cart and voila! Easy! I will also have a 3 for $30.00 listing as well. These can be any 3 made to match items.

It's time for this weeks Etsy tip. I just found out about this and I am SUPER excited to share it with you all. Etsy has just rolled out a huge list of apps to help us all out and my absolute favorite is called Etsy On Sale. Just to go etsyonsale.com to get started. The way it works it simple(and incredible!) I love it because instead of going through my Etsy shop and changing all of the listings to reflect a sale price, I can go on Etsyonsale and change the price of a section. For example, I will be putting my Holiday sets on sale for 50% off. Here is how you do it:

Go to Etsyonsale.com.
Click on Sellers in the upper right hand corner.
Go through the steps and confirm your shop name and allow them to connect to your account.
Select your shop
Click on Sales Events
On the right hand side will want to click on add new sales event.
Go through the simple form and voila, you have a sale!

I am so excited to try this out on Black Friday! I love, love, LOVE this new app and I know it will make my life much easier!

I hope you enjoyed this because I did! Happy selling and be sure to check out all of my awesome sale items next week.

Success!

Success!

My free holiday set sale was a HUGE success! I am still catching up on orders from the weekend, although my trip to the ER on Saturday didn't help things...

I woke up with a pain in my side and immediately thought it was appendicitis. Not wanting to have my appendix explode I had my husband take me to the ER. Thank goodness there weren't that many people there, but of course my stay was about a 5 hour one. Anywho, long story short, I had an ovarian cyst burst and the fun fluid that comes out is really irritating. I got a semi-clean bill of health and was sent home at about 1:00. I really wanted to use that time to get all of my orders filled but alas, rest came first. I did get a lot done yesterday though! I am going to finish up the rest of the orders and revisions today and hopefully get started on another EXCITING project!

I have decided that for the holiday season only, I will be bringing you print cards back! I have some really fun, cute ideas to bring to my shop for Christmas. The reason I do this is because I always look at those other fancy schmancy websites with their holiday cards. I think, oh wow that is cute....wait a minute I'm not paying that price! I want to be able to bring families fun, cute designs without breaking their budget. So be on the lookout later this week for holiday cards!

So, to those of you still waiting on a set, it will be in your inbox today!

Who is ready for the holidays?

Oooh, me me me, pick me! I am SO ready for the holiday's! I have even picked up a gift for my husband already:) I love this time of year and I am hoping to spread the holiday cheer in my shop. This is the first holiday season I am having here at SRDS and I want to celebrate with a lot of fun sets. I've sketched out some ideas and now I just have to put them onto the computer.

Also, I thought I would update everyone on some new things coming to SRDS. First of all, all of the sets in my shop are now semi-customizable. I will be providing a font list with every listing so you can now choose which font you would like. Also, for an extra 15.00 you can change the colors of your shop set as well!

Also, with the holiday's fast approaching I will be introducing some new shop sets in the coming weeks. Be on the lookout for fun pinks, blues, reds and greens! I am so excited to get these sets out!

Don't forget, I also have added some new regular shop sets.

Last time we talked about tags and how important they are to any shop trying to get some exposure. This week I will be discussing Branding your business. Branding is a way of putting a face to a name for your customers. If they see your banner they will remember it and be more likely to come back and purchase from you again. Branding is important now only online but offline as well. Promoting online is a great tool but to get even more exposure, you may want to get some business cards printed. These are great because you can print 250 of them and hand them out everywhere. Go to your local supermarket and post one on the board at the entrance. Check around your local mall or other places like coffee shops or anywhere else that allows you to post your card. This is a great(and free) way to get your name out there, especially if you have an eye catching card. This brings me to next weeks topic: Advertising.

That is all for this week. Be sure to check back again next week for more tips!

Need some tips?

I know that when I first started out on Etsy, I needed help, and a lot of it! I've decided that I am going to start adding some helpful tips and tricks to my blog to help those of you just starting out, or those of you that just aren't getting the sales you want.

Today's topic is tags. Tags are SO important. Without them, how will your potential customers ever find your products? When I started out I will have to admit, I was a little lazy. I would maybe do 2 or 3 because that was all I could think of. I was having very little sales as a result. Etsy allows up you to use up to 14 tags! If you are having trouble thinking of that many, sit down with a pad of paper or even ask friends and family for some input. When I tag my items, I try to be as descriptive as possible. For example, let's say I am going to list a new Etsy shop set. I can use the tags banner, avatar, business card, return address label, logo, pink, blue, flower, clean, etsy shop set, premade shop set, round sticker, polka dot. There are many ways to describe something and you really have to tap into that. My shop sets have a lot of items included in them so I try to make sure I list each item individually as well as the colors. These are great ways to describe your items! Now that I have utilized all 14 tags my sales have definitely increased. Another way I like to get sales is to promote, promote, promote...but that's another blog entry:)

Busy Lady

Yes, it's true. I am a very busy lady! I don't know how I do it somedays. I cook, clean, take care of my girls, AND run a design studio. What I do know is that I do indeed have a crazy life, but I enjoy every single second of it. It also helps to have an amazing supportive husband by your side;)

So this weekend I visited my parents for the fall fesitval. It's basically a little town fair that I always went to as a kid. It is so strange going there as an adult though. I always remember being able to spend hours there and now it's just not the same. Don't get me wrong, I did have fun but I think the cold windy weather definitely had something to do with it. Anywho, the girls got to spend time with Grandpa, who they adore. He is so great with the girls. I love watching them interact. Since my husband is in the Navy, we were stationed 2,000 miles away from my parents so these are the first few times that my kids get to spend time with their grandparents. Fortunately for us, Great Lakes Naval Station is just a hop, skip and a jump away so now we get to make up for lost time:)

Now I will quit rambling and get on to actual shop stuff! Over the course of the next week or so I will be adding individual business card designs to the shop. You can now add a matching business card design to your order if you would like, or simply order one of the cute cards! As always, they are you print and sent in a jpg format. This way you can print as many or as few as you would like. I am going to throw vistaprint.com's name out there again because I LOVE their work. The website is so easy to use and quite affordable. You can also get free business cards or free shipping. I think I get a coupon in my inbox every week or so(which is great!)

Does anyone have any ideas for a new shop set? I have been thinking of some ideas but also want your input. I am trying to stay away from pink and branch out into some other color combos.

Here are some new sets just added in the past week:

So there you have it. I will be adding more as the days go on. I have a few projects I will be working on as well as some other orders so I will be a very busy lady:)

Stay green,

Sara

Treasury!

As some of you know, I am a proud member of the Homefront Team on Etsy and I have been featured in one of their treasuries! I am so excited and thought I'd share this wonderful treasury with all of you. There are a lot of other amazing military spouses with some great items so be sure to check them all out!

Here is a link to the treasury:

I'm baaaaaack!

So despite wanting to be on vacation until Monday...I couldn't stay away:) I decided to open up early this morning. I have a TON of new stuff to go check out too! I have been working hard these past few days to get some Halloween themed sets out and I hope you all love them as much as I do.

I also have a few new things I will be doing at the studio. First of all, when you make a purchase from Srds you will receive a 10% off coupon to my sister studio, Sweet Sweet. There you can find personalized invitations, announcements and sooooo much more. Please visit soon and often! www.sweetsweetstudio.weebly.com. All of the items on the site are customized by me and sent to you in a jpg file. This way you can print as many of them as you like, wherever you would like! There are some really great prints there so make sure you take a look:)

I will be working on an Etsy strategy guide of sorts as well. This will also be included in your purchase of any item at my studio. I often times get a lot of Etsy users that are brand new to the site and have no idea where to get started! I have been on Etsy for a few years now and I want to pass my knowledge on. I have not yet gotten a chance to write this up, but it is coming!

And on a side note: GLEE is almost back, woooohoooo!

There, I just had to get that out:)

Have a great rest of the day and I hope you all check out my new sets!

New stuff!

So I am still on vacation but I couldn't contain my excitement any longer! I have been working hard(yes, on my vacation) on some fabulous new designs. Some are Halloween themed but not all. I will be offering the Halloween ones at an incredibly low price of $7.00! You will get 3 banners and 3 avatars for one low price. Your welcome:)

So here is a little preview. These will be posted on or around September 20th in my shop so be on the look out:

Karma is real, don't steal!

As I have learned in the past, Karma is REAL. I want to put that out there to a very certain individual who is copying my designs as well as other designers on Etsy. We all have a very certain style and when someone decides to use the designs as their own, it is very evident. I was browsing the different designs on Etsy and BAM! There it was. A design VERY similar to one I have had in my shop for months now. I also found another one this morning. I am not too upset but I want this person to know that Karma is real and it will catch up to you one way or another.

So, being the artsy fartsy person that I am I have decided to open up another shop. It will be called,"October Jones" and it will feature artwork done by yours truly. I LOVE to paint and haven't been able to do it in a very long time. I have decided that this will be my main focus while on vacation. For me, painting is such a huge outlet and it is such a peaceful and calming thing to do. I want to share my love of art with the rest of the world.

I hope I can fit everything in!

Vacation!

I am going on vacation! Well, I wouldn't exactly say that I'm going anywhere but I am taking a small break. I have a lot of catching up to do as well as some routine maintenance to my website. I made a whole list of things to get done and I thought that this would be the perfect time to do it.

Also, when I normally take a break I don't put my shop on vacation but for the week of the 8th it will be. I have too much stuff to get done and I know I won't get a single bit of it done if I'm still processing orders. Don't worry though, I will only be gone for about a week so you can still get your shop sets!

Speaking of, I have some new designs that I will be working on during my vacation week. I have some banners started that need all of the additional info to go along with them(i.e. avatars and extra made to match items).

So it looks like I will be busy on my vacation! But all is not lost, I'm doing for all of you:) I know how important it is to have a beautiful banner and avatar and how that reflects your style to your customers.

Recap: Vacation from September 8th to September 20th. New Banners and Avatars(woot!) Website will be way cooler.

That is all for now. I just thought I'd pop in and let you all know that I'm still here(just very busy;)

Logo design? Why, yes please!

So I have been playing around with the idea of starting my own logo design shop. I have some ideas sketched out and I'm pretty excited to get started. Things have been slow over at the studio so I thought I would take the time to get some premade logos made. Should be lots of fun!

I am hoping to do a premade logo shop within the next few months. I really like the name, "Heidi Girl" and yes, I am a bit biased on the name;) Things are still up in the air with a lot of things. I might just add these logos to my existing shop.

Here is some important information about my logo designs:

Logos will be premade will not be sold as OOAK. This is for the shop owner who is on a budget and wants to get started on Etsy. The beauty of a premade logo is the fact that the shop owner can get something to brand their shop for a low price as well as a fast turnaround time. Proofs are usually sent out via e-mail within 24-48 hours.

I will definitely update when I get some designs out:)

One more thing before I go. I will be going on vacation for a week in September(we haven't decided the exact time frame yet but I will let everyone know). Until then, stay green and be you!

Update

So I have been thinking a lot lately and I have decided to overhaul my shop! It needs a new look and my website needs a little bit of tlc too.

Here are some things to look for in the new shop:

New designs-I have been sketching a lot lately and have a lot of new ideas up my sleeve. I recently added a few new ones but there are many more to come.

New Fonts- Along with the new designs will be new fonts. Once I find a font, I usually tend to stick with it so I thought some new fonts would really help things out too.

New Listing format- I will be using the avatar as the listing photo for all of my listings. Right now I have been using the photo of the banners and they tend to get cut off. I think by using the avatar as the main photo in the listings customers will be able to get an idea of what the sets are.

More sales and coupons- I have been slacking as far as twitter and facebook go and I need to get back! Things have been very busy lately sometimes I don't get as much time as I would like to blog or twitter. Never fear! I will be posting a huge, and I mean HUGE coupon soon so be on the lookout!

Easier to navigate website-The site is pretty easy to navigate as it is now but I am in the process of making it even easier. Right now if you want to add on an extra i.e a business card design and a round sticker, you have to send me a message saying what you want. I am working on having a page dedicated to each item to make checkout easier.

Sale Item of the week- Every Monday I am going to post an item that will be on sale the entire week. This item may be an entire shop set, a business card design, or anything else in my shop. Be on the lookout and be sure to follow me on Twitter to see what the sale item is!

I hope this helps everyone. I am so excited to get all of this going and I hope you are too!

Friday, August 13, 2010

There's still time!

Hey everyone! There is still time to get your shop set with the coupon code. I received lots of orders yesterday and I am getting to work on them this morning. If you made a purchase yesterday you will be receiving a proof here shortly.

Happy Friday to everyone too:) I just love Friday's. Although this weekend I will be working on my website to make the checkout process a little easier. I am hoping to get everything done this weekend but we shall see how everything turns out!

Thursday, August 12, 2010

Anyone want a coupon?

Hey everyone! I have a new coupon code for today. Just convo me SRDSaugustsale and you will get $5.00 off any shop set! This coupon is only good today and tomorrow so hurry up and get your set. I am also offering 3 extras for just 26.00. That's like getting 3 for the price of 2! You can convo me if interested.

I forgot to tell everyone....I am at 100 sales! This has been a long time coming but I am so excited and ready for more things to come. I have added a lot of new really cute sets recently so go check em out!

So today it looks like I will be cleaning the apartment. I have been so busy lately and haven't had any time to really do a deep clean of the place. Should be a fun day!

So now that I have my new website(which I love, love, LOVE!) I am having some trouble deciding on how to do my M2M items. I want to do a page for each item but it is proving to be a rather lengthy process! I think I just need to take a few hours this weekend when I'm not working and organize everything. I want every item to be on a separate page to make things easier for you guys. I will let everyone know when it is up and running!

My amazing husband also surprised me with a bamboo touch a few days ago and I am absolutely itching to try it! I was watching the princess and the frog yesterday with my girls and I just love the artwork on the drawing of the restaurant. The flapper really stood out so I want to do a flapper theme for my shop. I really love the banner and avatar I have but I want it to be more personal. I want to make my flapper look a bit like Charlotte, with the blonde hair, flapper hat and dress. I want her to be me, but as a flapper. I am so excited to draw her and bring her to life! I love flappers(as you can tell) and anything involving the 1920's so I really want to incorporate that into my shop. I am thinking maybe doing an avatar type drawing to put in all of my listings. I will be sure to post her when she is done!

I think that is it for now. Remember, all extras are 3 for $26.00 and you can visit www.srdesignstudio.weebly.com to view the full list of items to choose from.

Later everyone and remember to stay green!

What have I been up to?

Wow! I haven't blogged in forever! I suppose that is what happens when one gets busy with work. I definitely have to say thank you to all of those that have placed an order this past week. I truly appreciate everything and it makes me smile:)

Some new and exciting things will be happening at SRDS! The first is the website. It is getting a makeover, how fun is that?! I know I have mentioned it before but I am just too excited to not talk about it! I will admit I did not do the design myself, I purchased it but that's okay because me and html do not get along very well. This is probably why I use weebly because it is user friendly, no html knowledge required. Although, I did try learning once...maybe I should restart that book...anywho, I may be taking some time off from the shop to rework the website but I won't know that until I get the template.

Also, a new and fun feature of the website is if you order just a banner and avatar you can visit the website to get matching items! All items are just $15.00 a piece and you can mix and match. Also, I will be offering a mix and match 3 items for just $26.00! Coupon code to follow as soon as I get the cart up and running:) That's like getting an item for free! Here is the list so far of made to match items up for grab:

* Business Card Design
* Blog Banner
* Website Banner
* Fabric Label Design
* Sticker Design(any size)
* Return Address Label Design
* Product/Bow Card Design
* Gift Certificate Design
* Web Ad

I will comment on a few of these since I know some of you will have questions. The Gift Certificate Design is for you to give out to your customers or to have for purchase in your shop. These can be in $25.00 increments or the amount can be left blank for you to fill in. The g.c's can be printed 3 to a page so you are not wasting any ink:) I love the idea that a shop owner can use these to sell or even use as a giveaway!

The Web Ad is just that. If you have a website that you like to advertise on you can have one made to match your shop.

I think that is all for now. I will be running a sale soon but for now I have a lot of work to catch up on! Thank you again to all of my loyal readers. Oh, and I found this in a blog and just HAD to share it. I think it is quite funny and it just goes to show how times have really changed! Goodbye for now and stay green!

I'm back!

So as some of you may have noticed, I was m.i.a this past week. I took a much needed break from the heavy workload I had. My youngest daughter who is a year and a half has taken a liking to our bed. She wakes up in the middle of the night and cries until we bring her in here. Needless to say, it gets a bit cramped in here and I wake up a bit stiff.
Anywho, I just needed a break to catch up on some housekeeping and just wanted to spend some time with the family. We did make it to the Chicago Botanic Garden which I would very highly recommend. It is beautiful there and I decided that when my husband and I renew our vows, it will be there:) It is just perfect and the scenery just blew me away. Plus, it helped that active duty Military get in for free...just saying;)
So I am going to be up and running as of tonight. I also have a lot of designs to add to my shop so I fully intend to be completely busy these next few weeks. I am not complaining one bit, I love my job!!!!

New Website Coming!

And boy am I excited! I am ready to give the ol' girl a new look! I am going to post a preview of a sample of what it will look like. The only difference is that it will say my shop name,(duh) and there won't be any photos. I decided to leave that part blank since it just seemed to busy with the stuff I was going to put in there. I also learned a few new tricks on weebly so I will be a busy bee this week.

Do any of you ever notice that some days of the week are busier, sales wise? I swear as soon as Tuesday gets here I am absolutely swamped with orders but on Saturday's you can hear a pin drop it's so quite. I am glad I noticed this trend and it really helps with knowing when to post items for sale.

I am also putting a lot of my shop sets on a pretty deep discount to make room for new designs. I am getting ready to roll out the fall collection pretty soon so if you are looking for a new look for your shop, stop on over and get an amazing deal!

So today is CLEAN TUESDAY! I usually clean the house on Tuesdays. Like really deep clean since the mess usually catches up with my by Tuesday. I did laundry and everything yesterday but my little ladies are like little tornadoes so you can't even tell that anything was done. It's all good though. Hopefully we can get the house cleaned up and go to the Chicago Botanic Garden. I have been wanting to go there for a while now and now that it is already August, I think I better get my butt in gear and take the kiddies!

That is all for now. Remember, new stuff coming soon as well as some pretty awesome sales!!

Everyone likes a sale!

Good morning everyone! I just added this super cute set to my shop. It comes with everything a new business owner could ever need, and more! I am taking $20.00 off the $80.00 with coupon code Ilovesummer. This sale will be over Friday so hurry up and get your set today!

So we took the scenic route...

o I woke up today and definitely didn't want to stay inside on such a gorgeous day. So I thought, what can we do? I initially wanted to visit the Museum of Science and Industry but since they wanted a couple of arms and a leg to get in, we decided against it. I love that place but come on, $16.00 for parking? A bit excessive I think. Since I really wanted to spend the day in downtown Chicago we thought, hey, why not try the Lincoln Park Zoo? It's free so why not? Well, here is the why not. There is no friggin' parking anywhere. You have to get there early or else you are screwed. So our day went a little like this: Get in car. Drive around block 15 times. See big buildings. Look for taco bell. Fail.

We decided to call it a day at about noon since the girls were both getting a little moody from being stuck in the car. I was also getting hungry and wanted me some taco bell! We got out of the city and found a taco bell in a small town. After that we headed home and I took a well deserved nap.

So all in all our day involved a lot of driving in circles. It's okay though because I absolutely love Chicago, it is a city very close to my heart:)

Now, onto more pressing matters(sale!) I will be posting a coupon code later in the week and it will be a doozie. I also will start offering listings for M2M items for your shop such as a gift certificate template which is great for all of you that want to start offering those. I will also have an M2M listing for promotional items such as postcards, business cards, return address labels, round stickers, and lots more. The way this will work is you can purchase these items and just let me know the name of your shop(if you have purchase a set from me. I cannot match the items to a set I have not created) and I will then match the item to your set.

I will also have a few new designs posted early in the week. I need to finish up a few more projects I am working on and then I am going to focus on getting the designs and M2M listings up.

That is all for now. Thank you to all of my loyal readers!

Gift Certificates have arrived!

Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you all know that I have decided to offer gift certificates. You can purchase these for yourself or give them away as a gift. Just visit my shop, purchase the certificate and I will then send you a special code for redemption. When you are ready to use it you can convo me prior and I can set up a reserved listing or you can just purchase the listing and I will refund you via paypal.

Also, I am going to start listing m2m(made to match) items in my shop. If you purchase a set and want a postcard design, you can add the listing for the m2m item and I will include this in your order when it is sent.

I think that is all for now. I am going to go clean my house now...Yay fun!

Rude Etsy users?

Why are the users in the etsy forums so rude? I recently posted offering a free ad on my website. No harm done right? It's freaking free?! My numbers have been going up so I decided to let a few people in on this to get things started. Okay, fine, I will post and let some people read it, have them sign up and have a nice little marketplace for people to search. WRONG. I get rude comments. Why do people insist on being so mean in the forums? I try to do something nice, share the wealth and this is what I get. I did get a few people interested which was nice but those others need to learn some manners. Or just go jump off a bridge;)

New Studio?

I have decided to start selling my invites again...but I'm changing it up a bit this time. Instead of me printing the invites I am offering digital files instead. With my other studio being so successful, there just isn't enough time in the day to do both. This way I can offer these goooorgeous designs and still be able to run both studios!

So, if you want a sneak peak visit www.sweetsweetstudio.weebly.com. There are a whole mess of designs to choose from. I will be adding the wedding invites in early August to be sure to check those out as well.

As a matter of fact, I do like Lady Gaga!

As I was driving home from my parents house today I busted out my Lady Gaga c.d. I must admit, I bought it for myself as a Christmas gift last year and listened to it once. I decided I needed a little pick me up(the drive is an hour) and holy mother of Jesus Crisp I loved it! There is one song on there(I think it's called Bang Bang) that I kept playing over and over. I'm a total sucker for this stuff;) I love listening to music that I can shake my booty or bob my head to(even if all the other drivers give me that "look" lol)

I had a great girls night out last night too. Since having both of my daughters I hadn't really had a proper girls night out. The fact that I lived in Washington didn't really help either, but now that I live about an hour away from all of my friends we can do fun things like that. We went and saw eclipse in IMAX and in my opinion that is the ONLY way you should see it. Really great movie. I am even more excited for Harry Potter though, that looked great except for the whole 2 part thing. I'm not feeling that.

Anywho, it's back to work for me. I had the busiest week ever this past week and I didn't make any sales this weekend so I'm hoping for a relaxed few days. I have been wanting to take a bit of a break so maybe this is a good time:)

Goodnight everyone!

Regretsy?!

Has anyone else heard of this site? I myself sell on Etsy but I happen to think this website is hilarious! I definitely found myself laughing out loud at some of the posts, funny funny stuff.

Next week I plan on working on rolling out some new designs and my theme colors are blue and yellow. I am not talking about your grandma's blue and yellow, I am talking about a bright, modern, fun blue. It will be VERY exciting. I just have to finish the designs that are floating around in my head.

As for this weekend, I am headed to Rockford Sunday to celebrate my mom's birthday. She has had a tough year and I really want to make it special for her:) I don't want to say what I'm gonna do because I don't want it to somehow get back to her(even though my parents live in the stoneage and would probably never read this, lol)

Busy Busy Busy!

As of lately I have been very busy. I have close to 4 orders to fill and one custom order. I am so happy to be so busy! I am really enjoying working with all of these amazing ladies on Etsy.

I have been working hard on some new designs and am trying to work on more. I hope to get at least 10 more sets finished by the end of the year.

Also, be on the look out for coupon codes in the near future;) I won't say when I will have that super coupon but can say that it will be soon.

That is all for now. I am taking a small break from updating my website so it's back to the grind for me:)

Short and Sweet

I haven't blogged in a while because I was taking a small break. I was overwhelmed by the amount of orders coming in as well as the amount of other sellers making the same product as me. The good news is that the break worked. I have tons of energy and am ready to get started on some new designs!

I am hoping to get my creative juices flowing again. I need to somehow get all of those crazy ideas back from when I was a kid, man what an imagination I had! It is strange when you become an adult and people expect you to be a stick in the mud. Well, not me! I embrace the fact that being different is a very good thing and I will continue to be myself. Who says you can't dance, or play with your kids blocks every once in a while. I think people take being an adult too seriously sometimes and it is good to let loose every now and again.

Anywho, I will be posting my latest design that I have added to my studio. I decided to retire the design in my previous post because there were WAY too many copycats on Etsy so I decided it was time to lay it to rest. Here she is and enjoy!

New Things Coming so SRDS

I am hoping by July I can get everything up and running. I have a lot that I am doing!

1. Printing Services: I can now print your return address labels and business cards. The demand for a printing service has been high so I decided to start printing them! I will be using vistaprint.com because the quality of their work is oustanding. I have used them numerous times before and have had no problems, so I think this will be great! Also, printing services will be offered through my sister shop, Sweet Sweet. If you purchase a premade etsy shop set from SRDS and want business cards printed as well, visit Sweet Sweet to purchase those.

2. Website: I am launching a new website! It is still a work in progress but I am slowly getting things together. The main thing I want to get is a sample of all of the banners and avatars since I mostly only use 1 banner and 1 avatar in my listings. Hopefully this will help in the decision process for those looking for a shop set.

3: New Business Card Designs: I am SUPER excited to start on my business card designs! I have a lot of ideas floating around in my head so I will hopefully get to work on those soon too.

4. Portfolio: I really hope to fill this up with many new and fun designs! I only have a handful of them on my website right now, but hopefully that will change soon!

So as you can see, I have a lot to do the rest of June but I will be lucky to get at least half of these done! Please be patient with me because on top of all of this I am still filling orders and making custom designs:)

In conclusion(wow, I feel like I am writing a paper in high school again, lol) I will be very busy but don't hesitate to contact me if you need anything for your Etsy shop!

Here is the newest addition to the SRDS family:

Custom Design

Do you have an idea or an old logo that needs a little bit of sprucing up? Bring your ideas and let me take care of the rest. I recently started doing custom logo design and I am loving it! I couldn't ask for a better job!!

Tuesday, June 8, 2010

Do what you love

Do what you love no matter what anyone says. I love being inspired by random things like when I'm driving on a beautiful sunny day and just the right song comes on the radio, and I get this burst of energy and I feel like I can conquer the world. I love to draw and sketch and ya know what? Who cares if I'm an adult, I can still get out my colored pencils and sketch book and go to town! It is what I love to do and it makes me happy. I really like getting my rollerblades out too, even though I'm still a little wobbly at times lol. But it's not my fault, the road is bumpy!

Anyway, my point is that it doesn't matter how old you are or what anyone thinks, take a risk and be yourself. Don't let anyone or anything tell you how to live your life. You only get one chance, you may as well make the most of it:)

Wedding

So it's official, I'm getting married! Well, let me rephrase that; I'm getting married again! My husband and I are working on almost 6 years of marriage and I told him I want my wedding gosh darnit! We eloped when we were pretty young and had no money, so now that we have a a little more cash and are close to family, we decided to tie the knot again. The date will be sometime in September of 2012. It is a ways off but I am definitely excited to walk down the aisle to my amazing husband!

As for Sara Rubendall Design Studio, new things are to come! I am branching out yet again. I will start making jewelry display cards. There are a lot of jewelry sellers on Etsy so I thought, why not team up and give them a fun design to help sell their items? I only have 1 design so far but I am hoping to get more up soon. I still have about 4 or 5 banners that I have started and still need to add avatars too. That will keep me busy for most of the week in between filling orders. I am thinking about offering printing services as well to make it a little easier for the customer.

I am also going to start offering marketing material design as well. This will include things like post-cards, business cards, hang tags and labels. The only thing stopping me is the time it takes to actually design the items. It is a goal for me so I have something to work towards!

And don't forget, if you need an Etsy makeover, be sure to stop by. I have new designs weekly as well as a pretty big selection in my shop.

I love Chicago!

I love this city. It is absolutely amazing every time I visit. We started off our day by riding the train into downtown Chicago. Once we got to the city we had to figure out what the heck we were going to do. I suggested going to Navy Pier since I know that is always a good place to start.

So we start walking, and keep walking, and continue walking until we get to Lake Michigan. I could see Navy Pier far in the distance but decided to keep going. It was quite a long walk but gosh darnit we made it! It was too bad that is was a bit overcrowded with kids on field trips and crazy teenagers. The day was gorgeous so I couldn't complain!

We got some yummy food and then decided to walk back so we wouldn't miss our train. Over all the day was fantastic but next time, I think we will drive!

I also got a yucky sunburn. Ouch. It hurts.

Tomorrow we are going grocery shopping and getting supplies to grill out. Tuesday is my birthday so I think we are going to go to Cheeseburger in Paradise. I am not so much a fan of the cheeseburgers but the spinach and crab dip is PHENOMENAL!! OMG. I don't even like spinach but this dip is to die for. So that's where I chose to go for my big 2-5.

Luckily the hubby has off until Tuesday so we will be spending a lot of time together as a family. I love it:)

And Lee won American Idol. Holy cow that was awesome!! I even wore my "beleeve" shirt the whole show. What a nerd I am!

I have also been super busy with my Etsy Shop. I am so thankful to be able to do this. I love my job and I hope to get some more designs out soon. For all of you Etsy followers, be on the look out. I may be having a special sale on my birthday(June 1st) so you might want to visit my shop on that day for some special sales and discounts.

Goodnight everyone:)

No Sales:(

What happened? I was getting sales on my banners just about every day and now I have hit a rough spot. I got nothing. Absolutely nothing. I have worked so hard on all of the designs so hopefully things will pick up soon.

Aside from the shop I have some decluttering to do. It seems like I just can't keep up with the messes the girls make, dishes, laundry, vacuuming. It has been a tad overwhelming lately(and my hubby wonders why I'm so tired all the time!)

Don't forget that I am having a sale this Saturday and Sunday(May 22nd and 23rd). Free matching business card design with any Premade Etsy Shop Set of $25.00 or more. That's a $15.00 value free!

...

Sweet Sassy Molassy!

Sara

Be inspired

I was having a bit of an artistic block if you will. I couldn't hammer out a new design for anything. Then I took a drive out in the country and it hit me. I had the cd player tuned to my favorite laid back music and as I took in the scenery I felt very much at peace. I took a deep, much need breath of fresh air and knew that my troubles were over. I absolutely love what I do and I couldn't be happier with where I am in my life. I get to stay at home with my two beautiful daughters and I get to work at a job that I don't even consider work. Sometimes in life we just have to take a moment and look at everything around us. Life moves so fast and you really have to stop and smell the flowers every once in a while.

I hope I'm not ranting but I do have exciting news! I was able to get these two shop sets done tonight and I am excited to share them with you guys.

Holy American Idol Batman!

I know this has absolutely nothing to do with my shop but I am going to post it anyway...because I can:) Wow is all I can say about last night.

As I'm sure you all know I am a HUGE Lee fan, and it just to happens that his hometown is, oh, I don't know, 10 minutes down the road from where I live! I got the chance to go to the homecoming parade and it was incredible. There were so many fans there to greet him and let him know that he is truly an amazing performer. I think that is what he needed to boost his confidence and it really showed last night. Both performances were miles ahead of the other two and I think he has a great shot at winning the whole thing. He was able to put some emotion into the performances and that is what you need to win. He has grown so much over the past weeks.

I honestly don't even know how Casey made it this far. I watched his audition the other day and I think his good looks are what got him through. He hasn't grown at all on the show like the other 2 have. I just don't understand why he is in the top 3, I really don't.

Crystal was pretty solid all season up until a few weeks ago. Her performances just started going downhill and I think last night she blew it. I know she loves Melissa Ethridge but I don't think the song was perfect for her as the judges said. As for her second song, it seemed as though she screamed the whole thing. I didn't love it. I really don't think she knew what she was signing up for when she auditioned for the show, and now that she has figured it out, I don't think she wants everything that comes along with the show.

So, that leaves Lee. He is going to be the next Idol, mark my words. He wants it so bad and he has the qualifications to be a great American Idol. It was great seeing him come home. He was so emotional and so humbled and it really showed how much he really deserves it.

Sorry, I got off on a bit of a tangent:) More shop stuff to come!

"She works hard for the money..."

Aint that the truth! I have been working on these new designs for the past few days, and I must say I am pretty happy with what I have come up with so far. I still have a lot more to make but at least I have something to start with right?!

Lee Dewyze is my American Idol!

I have been watching the show for years now and I finally got to attend a homecoming parade! I gathered up the girls yesterday and we headed about 10 minutes south to Mt. Prospect. There weren't that many people there since we arrived about 2 hours or so early. I wanted to make sure we got there before the traffic got too crazy. Anywho, we got there, got a few shirts(Beleeve!) and then found a place to watch. The crowd was crazy and as soon as he started coming down the road everyone moved in closer for a better look. I just stayed where I was on the sidewalk because I wanted to stay away from all the crazies. Anywho, I did end up getting some photos. He looked straight over my way and I saw him get a little emotional. It was really cool because I know he is so humbled by everything that has happened to him. He is so talented and I can only wish for amazing things to come! I was really glad I was able to be there to support such an amazing singer! I hope he goes all the way but we will find out in a few weeks:)

Now that I had all of that fun yesterday it's back to work. I got all of my household chores done today and now I am so full of inspiration, I just want to get busy designing again! I think my next venture is going to be recipe cards. I have a lot of ideas for those so we will see how that goes.

Vote for Lee!!

Etsy Banners and Shop makeovers

Do you have an Etsy shop or know someone who does? I am excited to announce that I am now making Etsy shop banners, avatars and whole shop makeovers! I recently started playing around with some ideas for my own shop and thought, "wow, these turned out pretty cute, maybe someone else would like them too." And they did. I started posting them on my Etsy and I got 4 sales in the first day. I am so happy to be helping shop owners get more sales! I am loving these designs and I have even more ideas to come. This afternoon I will be working on some more orders for customers but after that I will be fixing and tweaking some of the old ones. I am so ready to get going...so I think I will. Later!

Love your job

I know I do! Last night all I could think about was what I had to work on, and I was excited about it! I love the fact that I can stay at home with my girls and still be able to work. It really is important to love what you do. I know I have been so happy lately and I think it has a lot to do with being happy with my job.

I am a total geek and a photoshop nerd. I just love the heck out of all of the possibilities in photoshop.

Today I am adding items to Ecrater and hopefully the hubby will be home so fix the other computer. I have these new templates I am itching to customize! I am ready to get going on this whole adventure!

Special note to my loyal followers: if you know anyone expecting or know anyone having a birthday soon, send them my way. I will take great care of them!

I'm a green girl

Thanks to treehugger.com I came across this article and wanted to share it with everyone. I recently watched Food Inc. and it really opened my eyes to what we are really eating. This article is called 66 things you can grow at home. If you can't do this then start shopping at a farmers market or make sure all of the fruit you buy is local. Anywho, here's the link:

Templates!

So my templates finally arrived today! I am excited to get them personalized so I can get them on the website for everyone to see. Our main computer is still down but I can try editing them on aviary so I can at least see what most of them look like.

I got my first follower, thanks Katie!

I hope to get the word out about SRDS and hopefully everyone can see my designs as well as the pre-made templates. They are all beautiful!

That is all for now. I have a lot to take care of today so this will be a short one.

Good things to come:)

I filled out forms for my business license today and it really makes all of this seem so much more real. When I worked in Washington I just used etsy or ebay so I never really had to do that but it makes everything feel so...official! I can't wait to get this ball rolling!

There are still a few things to take care of on the website but not a lot. I have to re-do each of the design listings to include some more details but other than that things look great. I can't wait to get started. This is what I absolutely love to do and I am so lucky to be doing what I love.

I also ordered business cards and got some GORGEOUS tissue paper this past weekend. I like to add a little bit of fun to all of the packages I send out so some fun tissue paper always makes things a little bit more exciting. EEK! (that's just me being super excited:)

I am still waiting for my new templates to get here. Of course, I can't really do anything to them until the hubby fixes the computer. I swear if it's not one thing it's another! Either way, I am ready to get things going.

I think that is it for now. I will keep this thing updated in the days leading up to my grand opening. Keep updated for even more coupons and fun surprises!

Grand Opening is coming soon!

Hello to all of you following my blog! I am so excited to introduce my design studio to all of you. I like a lot of you out there am feeling the effects of the not so good economy. When my first daughter was born I was devestated because I wanted so badly to send out some really beautiful announcements. I really wanted a beautiful design that wasn't crazy expensive, but no such luck.

This is why I opened srds. I wanted to offer gorgeous designs at an affordable price. Now I am weeks away from the grand opening and I couldn't be happier! I have been doing graphic design for 4 years now and I am so ready to get things up and running. I have many new designs along with lots of other fun surprises.
